This is a timely and useful review of a book which is an introductory reader about manga. The reviewer provides a crisp summary of each chapter and discusses each chapter critically. They also draw attention to the debate over the origins of, and the inaugural instance of manga, within the reviewed manuscript. It is a useful reference when selecting resources to peruse about the history and development of manga, as well as its issues, in academia where manga is not given sufficient prominence. As manga has potential as an informal educational tool, especially in distance learning, it is hoped that this book review will pave the way for educators to realise the immense potential that manga has, and for it to be given serious intellectual attention.
