Abstract

How could anyone hope to comment on contemporary history via ancient pasts? What is the role of indigenous knowledge systems in all this, if any? My working assumption is that the literature and other cultural productions of the Graeco-Roman world suggest some unexpected but telling lines ofanalysis.
