In 2023, CCC launched The State of Scholarly Metadata, an interactive, visual report that illustrates challenges that arise at various points in the research lifecycle when data stewardship isn’t prioritized or doesn’t align with the needs of stakeholders in an evolving ecosystem. Taking a collaborative approach, this report was built with input from dozens of representatives from institutions, publishers, funders, researchers, service providers, PID providers, and industry associations. Since the launch of this report, we have continued to engage the community to not only validate the challenges but to explore what is being done to make measurable progress toward a less fragmented metadata supply chain. In this interactive poster presentation, we will highlight how change is being made at different stages of the research lifecycle. Using concrete examples such as new strategies, recommendations, and working groups, we will highlight where initiatives are underway and explore where more week is needed. This poster will invite dialogue with attendees who can continue to share their perspective on the change, the speed in which it is happening, and what the future may look like if these efforts are prioritized.
