Transforming parental leave to improve equity: An examination of Elsevier/Cell Press parental leave policies

This poster outlines and discusses the recently extended US Elsevier/Cell Press parental leave policies. These leave benefits have meaningfully addressed equity concerns and transformed the experience of both birthing and non-birthing parents within the organization. A presentation of these flexible policies, their applications, and their benefits is paired with specific examples and descriptions of the various practices used at Cell Press to make long and/or intermittent leave policies practical and feasible for the individual, the department, and the organization. These policies and practices can be used as a framework to design similar policies elsewhere; we encourage other organizations to use these techniques to address the equity concerns presented by the lack of cohesive parental leave policies in the US.
