            Abstract

The COVID pandemic has permanently changed infection diagnostics. Whereas in the past, hardly anyone knew what to make of terms such as PCR or sequencing, these terms have now entered the general vocabulary. The pandemic has also led to upheavals in the field of diagnostics. Fueled by the unprecedented research in the pandemic, conventional, cultural methods have given way to molecular biological diagnostic methods. In this presentation, the advantages and disadvantages of molecularbiological methods in infectious disease diagnostics as well as the state of the art, will be discussed. Furthermore, future diagnostic methods will be discussed.
