          Abstract

ABSTRACT: The Incident (2014) first long feature film of Mexican filmmaker Isaac Ezban, is a fantasy movie with two parallel stories where the characters are trapped in “impossible” places for decades. Through its claustrophobic scenarios, the film takes a stand with respect to boring, exhausting daily routines, and the phantasm of living a different life, of having made different choices. This means that the construction of the real world inhabits among constructions of alternative, possible worlds, placing each subject among different and possible versions of her/himself. This article examines, through selected sequences and using theoretical tools of critical architecture and cyberspace critique, why different versions of ourselves exist, and why it is important to recognize them in order to imagine different worlds and better lives.
