Abstract

El artículo investiga cómo la disputa sobre el Nuevo Mundo trata tanto de la construcción de la conciencia europea, como del intento de provincializar a Europa. A partir de los trabajos históricos de Michel de Certeau, hace énfasis en la confrontación entre la Historia de América, del líder presbiteriano William Robertson, y la Storia antica del Messico del jesuita mexicano Francisco Javier Clavijero, quienes elaboran dos concepciones alternativas y contrarias de la historia y de la humanidad.

Translated abstract

This article investigates how the dispute of the New World addressed both the construction of a European consciousness and the attempt to provincialize Europe. Moving from M. de Certeau's historical works, it focuses on the confrontation between the History of America by the Scottish Presbyterian leader W. Robertson and the Storia antica del Messico by the Mexican exiled Jesuit F.J. Clavijero, which yield two alternative and competing conceptions of history and mankind.
