Abstract

En este artículo se describen las prácticas relacionadas con la circulación y el consumo en las cuencas de los ríos Sogamoso y Lebrija. Después de una presentación del espacio objeto de estudio, se abordan las redes entabladas por ciertos comerciantes. Se caracterizan las relaciones entre la economía minera y la rural, y la importancia de esta última en la activación de una corriente de consumo muy fuerte durante el siglo XVIII. A continuación se discute el problema de la moneda y la manera cómo los productos circulaban con o sin ella. Por último, se realiza una corta descripción del tipo de mercancías que eran consumidas en las zonas rurales.

Translated abstract

This article analyzes trade and consumption patterns in the Sogamoso and Lebrija river valleys. Following an introduction to the geography of the region, it examines the commercial networks established by some merchants. The article describes the relations between the mining and rural economies, the latter of which was important in generating a very strong wave of demand during the eighteenth century. The currency problem, and the way products circulated with or without it, is then discussed. The article concludes with a short description of the kinds of merchandise that were consumed in rural areas.
